How it works
- Add a row per component: homework, quizzes, midterm, final, participation…
- Enter your average score (0–100) and the component's weight in the course.
- Weights are expected to sum to 100% — a gentle warning appears if they don't.
- Each score is multiplied by its weight, summed, and divided by the total weight.

The formula

grade % = Σ (score × weight) ÷ Σ weight
When weights total 100, this simplifies to Σ(score × weight) ÷ 100. The calculator still works if your weights don't sum to 100 — it normalizes by the actual total.

- Weighted sum = 1840 + 2340 + 4250 = 8430
8430 ÷ 100 = 84.3% — a B, dragged down by the midterm even though homework was strong.
Common mistakes
- Using points instead of weights — a 20-point homework category is a weight of 20%, not 20 points.
- Weights that sum to more than 100% without realizing the average gets diluted.
- Entering scores as fractions (0.85) instead of percentages (85).
Frequently asked questions
My weights don't add up to 100. Is that a problem?
The calculator normalizes by your actual weight total, so results are still meaningful — but a mismatch usually means a mistake. Check your syllabus and correct it.
What if a component has multiple assignments?
