How it works

The formula

grade % = Σ scores ÷ Σ maximum scores × 100
This matches how most courses compute totals — every point carries equal weight, so a 50-point midterm moves your grade twice as much as a 25-point quiz.

- Total score = 18 + 41 + 28 = 87; total max = 20 + 50 + 30 = 100
Current grade = 87% — a B+ with this letter scale.
Common mistakes
- Using a simple average of percentages — averaging 90% (on 10 points) with 70% (on 100 points) treats them equally, which is rarely correct.
- Entering scores out of different maximums and comparing them directly.
- Forgetting graded items that carry no points but affect your standing.
