Pomodoro Timer
The Pomodoro Technique splits work into 25-minute focus blocks with short breaks between them. This timer is deliberately minimal: start a session, work until the bell, take the break, repeat. Every fourth break is longer, as the technique prescribes.

How it works
- Press Start — a 25-minute focus session begins (durations are adjustable).
- When the session ends, a soft chime plays and a short 5-minute break starts automatically.
- After four sessions, a long 15-minute break is offered.
- Completed sessions are counted so you can track your daily focus blocks.
- The browser tab title shows the remaining time, even in another tab.
The formula
Cycle structure
4 × focus (25m) + short breaks (5m) → long break (15m)
The classic Pomodoro rhythm. All durations are editable to match your attention span.
Worked example
Worked example — one cycle
- Focus 25m → short break 5m (×3)
- Focus 25m → long break 15m
One full cycle = 1 hour 40 minutes of work with 30 minutes of breaks.
Common mistakes
- Extending sessions when the bell rings — the break is part of the method.
- Ignoring the long break — the 15-minute reset is what prevents burnout across the day.
- Studying with the timer but multitasking — a Pomodoro should be one task, one screen.
Frequently asked questions
Why 25 minutes?
It's the original Pomodoro length — long enough to make progress, short enough to stay focused. Many students adjust to 30 or 50 minutes; the timer lets you set your own.
Does the timer keep running in the background?
The countdown is computed from the real time, so it stays accurate when you switch tabs. The remaining time is shown in the tab title.
Is the sound required?
No — sound can be muted. The phase change is always visible on screen and in the tab title.
How many Pomodoros should I do per day?
8–12 focus sessions (about 3.5–5 hours of deep work) is a strong day for most students. Quality of the session matters more than the count.
