The formula

The straightforward ratio — 45 of 60 classes → 75%.
Classes you can still miss
can miss = floor(total × (100 − required) ÷ 100) − already missed
The maximum allowed absences minus what you've already used. A negative number means you're already below the threshold.

- Attended: 42 · Total classes: 60 · Requirement: 75%
- Attendance = (42 ÷ 60) × 100 = 70%
- Allowed absences = floor(60 × 25 ÷ 100) = 15; already missed = 18
70% — below the 75% threshold. You've used 3 more absences than allowed.
Common mistakes
- Counting the current semester only when the rule applies to the whole course.
- Forgetting classes that were cancelled or rescheduled — use officially held classes.
- Rounding attendance up — 74.6% is not 75%.
Frequently asked questions
Why is 75% the default threshold?
It's the most common minimum in universities that enforce attendance (especially in Asia, the Middle East and parts of Europe). Set it to your own institution's rule — some use 60%, 70% or 80%.
What happens if I fall below the minimum?
Consequences vary: being barred from the final exam, losing marks, or academic warning. Check your university's attendance policy — and use the class attendance planner to get back above the line.
Does online/recorded lecture viewing count as attendance?
Only if your university counts it. Use the attendance count your official system records.
How many classes can I miss if I'm at exactly 75%?
None — every further absence drops you below. The calculator's “can still miss” number updates as you enter your real numbers.
